Two nights ago I experienced severe, debilitating pain in my chest, back, neck, head and face, and my left arm. My pain medication didn't work, and then the pain subsided. But after an hour it began again with a vengeance! Finally yesterday afternoon, I couldn't stand that pain any longer and so my older daughter called the emergency squad.
Let me tell you, they arrived quickly, emergency squad, fire trucks with lights a'twirlin' and sirens a'blarin'! All of a sudden my living room filled with men, who immediately came to my aid with blood tests, EKG machines, blood pressure cuffs, etc.

After evaluating me, Derrick(the leader of the pack, I guess)sent all the info to the doctor via computer. The doctor decided to send me to the Emergency Room for more tests! By this time my pain was getting much worse. Now I have a high tolerance for pain. When I was in high school, I'D even have my teeth filled with no novocaine! Even as I'm writing this post, the pain is atrocious! But I digress...
Taking blood from me and putting in an IV is a nightmare! It's pure hell! I have tiny, weak veins that like to hide! Needless to say, the first two nurses were unsussessful.
They left to find someone else to do it and NEVER CAME BACK! At this point I was beside myself wih pain. I was caged in the bed with no call button and after 45 minutes I started yelling. Finally Dr. Bob(yep, that's what he said to call him) came in like Mr. Rogers, asking me questions and telling me that it didn't look like anything was wrong with my heart;I shouldn't worry 'cause he was ordering blood tests, an IV and pain meds! So I showed him the sites where the nurses had already tried and he apologized. Geez! I asked him if the pain could be treated NOW and he said he'd get the nurses right on it. Yep! You guessed it! I waited and waited and waited. Finally a lab technician came in and YEA! she got it on the first try! She started to leave and I asked her about the IV. THAT wasn't her job! And then all of a sudden a Triage nurse came in and just popped that IV right in!
My pain had escalated so much that now I was crying. But I was alone Again. I waited 60 minutes and then I finally grabbed the attention of a civilian here for another patient. She grabbed a nurse who took one look and went after the pain meds! She came back about ten minutes later to tell me that good 'ol Dr. Bob had forgotten to put in any orders but that she would give the standard pain meds in the IV. FINALLY!
IT DIDN'T WORK! And just then Dr. Bob comes in with his Mr. Rogers smile and apologizes. He tells me that my heart is fine. All the tests are fine and that my pain is from my fibromyalgia kicking up! All this as I receive more pain meds that DIDN'T WORK! So I'm still in pain, advised to see my primary care doctor and given a prescription for more pain meds that ARE NOT WORKING!
Thank you for listening to me. It helped me get my mind off the pain for awhile!
